Earlier this month, LinkedIn published its 2023 Workforce Report. The report focuses on data revolving around data on Americans starting new jobs and moving to new cities. Austin, TX, San Francisco Bay Area, CA, and Seattle, WA saw the most growth of people moving to their cities. LinkedIn also breaks down different industries and the hiring trends we’ve seen in the last year.
Key Insights from LinkedIn’s 2023 Workforce Report:
Hiring declines. Compared to this time last year, hiring is down overall 23%. Most of this decline occurred between April and June of 2022.
The fastest-hiring industries. Utilities and Government Administration experienced the most growth this year. Historically, this industry does fare well during economic downturns. Administration and Support Services increased by 3.3%, Construction increased by 3.1%, and Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain and Storage increased by 2.7% since this time last year.
Cities with the largest employment growths. Austin, Menneapolis-St. Paul and Phoenix experienced the largest month-over-month gains for employment last year.
