We’re amid an economic cooldown. It’s still true that IT talent is in high demand. The most recent shift involves a new focus on more generalized tech skills. Examples of these include app developers and cyber experts. Although unemployment decreased, the labor pool shrank as well. Long-term employment has not been this low in 20 years.
Employment Rates from September for Professional Services
Professional and business services particularly have added 1.1 million jobs (over the past 12 months). Regarding staying competitive, professional and business services are the highest sector gains. Wages are still rising, as well. Candidates expect higher compensation for more technical skills. In September, unemployment decreased to 3.5%. This was a steeper jump than experts predicted.
According to Becky Frankiewicz, Chief Commercial Officer and President – North America at ManpowerGroup Inc., says, “The job market is loosening a bit and today’s #BLS report showed some gradual softening in new jobs created. We predicted the report would show strong gains in professional services – every company needs tech talent, and we’re seeing a shift towards more generalized tech skills in demand – think app developers and cyber experts.”
