The company required that all production queries, which were running from a few minutes to several hours, should run below 30 seconds.
Solution
The team did all new development within Teradata’s best practices guidelines, e.g., data profiling, optimized column sizes, optimized row sizes, applied proper PI handling, proper stats collection, and performance tuning for all long-running queries. Any other long-running jobs run before regular work hours and produce, for example, views that are available during the workday.
Results
- All queries perform below 30 seconds.
- This has been a continuous process—the team continues to keep tuning the queries that are not meeting the SLA.
- Impact: The average time of all user queries has been reduced from 10 minutes to 30 seconds, saving users significant idle time.
