Today is President’s Day here in America, and so at APC, we’ve been thinking about what makes a great leader in 2022.
So, what makes a great leader these days?
According to researchers at Rochester University, the top 5 leadership qualities that make a great leader in 2022 include:
-
- Great leaders are not only responsible for their team’s actions – but their own. Taking ownership – of both the positives and the negatives – is an essential part of being a successful leader.
- Problem-solver
- Leaders must often make difficult decisions and consider many different approaches to achieve the best possible outcome. This need for quick decision-making often goes hand-in-hand with the skill of risk assessment.
- Empathetic
- What does it mean to be empathetic? For great leaders, empathy means seeing their employees’ side of view.
- Flexible
- Especially after a pandemic that has spanned two years, the last thing employees want in a boss is someone who isn’t flexible. Employees want to know that when uncertain circumstances arise, they will make the best decisions for their health and wellbeing.
- Patient
- Being a good mentor means having a certain amount of patience while you work with your mentees to become more successful and more talented. Everybody makes mistakes, and patient leaders recognize this.
In recent months, many companies have been affected by The Great Resignation. As it happens, one cause contributing to this phenomenon is leaders who lack many of the above qualities. So, if you’re a leader in your business, how are you inspiring your employees? How are you taking their strengths and amplifying those attributes so your workforce performs at the best it can?
